Internet in Finno-Ugric Information Space

The Information Centre of Finno-Ugric Peoples in Tallinn organised April 10 to 13, 1997 an international workshop Internet in Finno-Ugric Information Space in the course of which the Media and Information Work-Group of the Finno-Ugric Peoples Consultative Committee was formed. The work-group empowered the Information Centre of Finno-Ugric Peoples to coordinate its work. Representatives of nine Finno-Ugrian nations took part of the seminar. The participants at the seminar exchanged information on the prevalence of Internet and computer technology on the different Finno-Ugrian territories and set principles for further cooperation. The representatives of television stations agreed to exchange the children's programmes on fairy-tales of the Finno-Ugric peoples. The following final documents were adopted:

- the protocol of intentions in which all the participants at the seminar promised to facilitate the development of Internet as well as NGOs access to the Internet;

- the draft of the rules of the Media and Information Work-Group of the Consultative Committee for the Committee to approve; the Committee approved the draft with minor changes as Statutes of the Working Group on Media and Information on its session in Helsinki in October 16-19, 1997

- the cooperation protocol of the Finno-Ugric television stations.
