State kommittee of national politics of the Karelia Republic, public organizations of finno-ugric peoples of Karelia, State TV- and Radiocompany “Karelia” accepted Consultive kommittee of finno-ugric peoples’ propose to hold an international festival of TV-films on finno-ugric subject under the name “The myths and realities of the finno-ugric world” in Petrozavodsk under 12-13 june 2002. It will be the IX:th TV-festival of finno-ugric peoples.    

For this festival we accept films devided to problems of the preservation and the depelopment of languages, culture and origins of finno-ugric peoples in the modern world. Creative groups which represent state and private TV-companies of republics, national districts and regions of Russian Federation, Estonia, Hungary, Finland, Latvia, Sweden and Norway can participate.

On the festival films should be introduced by their creators (not more than 2 persons). Films  should be not longer than 40 minutes. Works should be accompanied by written annotation in russian, english or finnish language that will tell about authors’ concepiton and the problem that the film tells about.

On the whole the festival should draw attention to various and original culture of finno-ugric cultures, show to the world which problems these as a rule not so numerous peoples meet while asserting their rigth to exist.

We accept films that were made under 1998-2002. Films should be offered on the tapes of VHS-format.

The nominations are:

1. Best film.

2. Best film about destinies of the national cultures and languages.

3. Best film about the country, nature and  villages.

4. Best urban-film or film about how to preserve national originality in our impetuous world.

5. Best  director.

6. Best camera-man.

7. Best journalist’s work.

8. Prize of the public sympathy.

Among the prizes there will be: the highest prize Gran Pri (nomination 1) and diplomas of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree and money-prizes.

Work on the preparing and holding the festival is realized by republics organizatonal group under guidance of the chairman of the Republic Karelias State kommittee of national politics V.G.Ahtiev. The group includes the chairman of the TV- and radiocompany “Karelia” M.O.Havcova, employees of this and other karilian TV-companies, ethnologists, linguists, folklorists, historians, artprofessors from Petrozavodsks state univercity, Petrozavodsks conservatoire, Karelians science-centrum RAN, art-museum, journalists, culture-workers, employees of the Republic Karelias State kommittee of national politics and Karelias ministry of culture.

We reccomend to make  a  preliminary request for participation by a phone-call.

Arrival of the paricipants will be on 11 of june 2002, departure - on 14 of june 2002. ore detailed information will be sent to those who applied for the festival in the next information-letter.

Transport-expenses will be paid by the sending side, hotel and food - by the accepting side.
